Acceptable Use Policy
Last updated: 30 October 2026
DRAFT — not yet reviewed by a lawyer. From decision 12 in
docs/self-serve.md. This policy forms part of the Terms of Service.
Why this exists
A menu you publish on iOrder sits on our web address, iorder.rest/your-restaurant. What you publish there reflects on every other restaurant using the service, and on us.
This is a short list, and most restaurants will never think about it. You are publishing a menu. Nothing here will surprise you.
What you may not publish
- Sexual content. No pornography, no nudity, nothing sexually explicit.
- Hate. Nothing that attacks or demeans people for their race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, disability, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, or age.
- Harassment or bullying. Nothing targeting a particular person. Not a competitor, not a former employee, not a customer who left a bad review.
- Threats or violence. Nothing threatening anyone, and nothing celebrating violence.
- Anything unlawful, or anything advertising unlawful goods or services.
- Deception. Prices or descriptions meant to mislead a customer about what they will be charged or served.
- Someone else's work. Photographs, logos, artwork or text you do not have the right to use. Including another restaurant's menu.
- Impersonation. A restaurant name or web address chosen to be mistaken for a business that is not yours.
- Malware or attacks on the service, including attempts to reach another restaurant's data.
What we check, and when
Pictures are checked automatically before they can become public. Every image you upload is scanned in the upload pipeline. An image that fails is refused at that moment — it never reaches a public page.
Your restaurant's name and web address are checked when you sign up, not at publish time. A name is printed on physical table tents and is permanent, so it is better to catch a problem before anything is printed than afterwards.
Text is reviewed when something is flagged, by a person. Written menu content is not automatically blocked or suspended. Food descriptions are full of words that a filter would get wrong, and a menu that cannot be published because a machine misread "spotted dick" is a worse product than one that is occasionally looked at by a human.
What happens if something is wrong
We would rather you fixed it than lose you as a customer, so this is a ladder, not a trapdoor:
- We tell you, by email, what the problem is and what to change.
- You change it. For most things that is the end of it.
- If it is serious or not fixed, we may remove the content, unpublish the menu, or suspend the account.
- For anything unlawful, we may suspend immediately without the steps above, and report it where the law requires.
If we suspend you, the Refund Policy applies, except where the account was closed for publishing unlawful content.
If you think we got it wrong, reply to the email. A person reads it.
Reporting something
If you see something on an iOrder menu that breaks this policy, email support@iorder.rest with the web address and what is wrong. We read every report.
Changes
We may update this policy. If a change materially affects you we will tell you by email before it takes effect.
